Shubman Gill-led India beat Afghanistan in the first one-day international (ODI). It was a rain-curtailed game that India won despite Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s incredible hundred. India handed debuts to Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey, who combined to take six wickets between them, while Arshdeep Singh also impressed again with two wickets with the new ball. Harshit Rana could join India soon

India could receive a boost ahead of the final ODI against Afghanistan, with Harshit Rana nearing a return from the knee injury that has kept him out of action for several months. The pace-bowling all-rounder, who missed both IPL 2026 and the T20 World Cup after undergoing surgery earlier this year, is expected to receive fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence on June 17. Rana has reportedly been bowling full workloads and working extensively on his batting during rehabilitation. With Hardik Pandya ruled out due to a fresh injury setback, the team management sees Rana as a long-term pace all-rounder option and could fast-track his comeback for the third ODI in Chennai. Rohit Sharma’s short stay vs AFG

Rohit Sharma’s struggles in ODI cricket continued as he managed just 16 runs against Afghanistan, extending a worrying run of scores in 2026. The veteran opener, who has now scored 26, 24, 11 and 16 this year, looked far more cautious than the aggressive batter who redefined India’s ODI approach between 2023 and 2025. His innings ended in an unfortunate run-out following a mix-up with Shubman Gill. Gurnoor Brar announced himself on the international stage with a memorable ODI debut against Afghanistan, proving why India’s selectors had backed him despite his limited List A experience. The 6’5” pacer, who had played just nine List A matches before earning his cap, struck with only his fifth ball in international cricket and finished with impressive figures of 3/27 in 4.5 overs. Sooryavanshi’s brother scores century

Big blow to Pakistan before IND vs PAK

Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls to help India chase down a total of 195 with seven wickets in hand, in the rain-affected first ODI in Dharamsala on Saturday.

Earlier, Rahmanullah Gurbaz made a high quality 102 off just 51 balls while pacer Gurnoor Brar (3-27 in 4.5 overs) was impressive on debut India bowled out Afghanistan for 194.

Persistent showers delayed the start by more than four hours but not much time was lost once the skies cleared up. The game was reduced to 25-overs-a-side with India putting the opposition in to bat.

The ball was doing a bit in the air early on but Gurbaz went on the offensive from the word go. However, India were able to pick up wickets at regular intervals.

The New York/New Jersey Stadium witnessed an entertaining 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco in front of a capacity crowd of over 80,000 spectators, with both teams showing flashes of quality in an entertaining FIFA World Cup Group C clash.

Morocco enjoyed the better of the first 15 minutes with six attempts on goal and the majority of the ball possession. Morocco’s aggressive pressing forced errors and repeatedly disrupted Carlo Ancelotti’s side in their own defensive third, leaving Brazil struggling to play out from the back.

The pressure finally paid off in the 21st minute. A perfectly weighted through ball from Brahim Diaz split the Brazilian defence and found Ismael Saibari making a well-timed run behind the backline who chips the ball over Alisson to give his side a deserving lead. Morocco who scored against a South American team for the first time in a World Cup match since 1998.

The tension in the stadium grew as did the frustration of the Brazilian fans. The fans were waving their arms and they wanted a response from their team and their star player gave them just that.

Vinicius Junior was picked out by Bruno Guimaraes on the left side of the penalty box in the 30th minute. The Real Madrid winger cut in on to his preferred right foot and fired a stunning strike past Yassine Bounou into the roof of the net. That was a moment of individual brilliance that reminded everyone why Vinicius is one of the standout stars of the tournament.

The equaliser changed the complexion of the match and gave Brazil a new life. Both teams continued to search for a second goal before the break and Brazil almost got it early in the second half. Lucas Paqueta’s acrobatic scissor kick in the 47th minute bounced awkwardly in front of Bounou. The Moroccan goalkeeper reacted superbly, reaching out to push the effort behind for a corner.

The first 45 minutes was all about the attacking talents on show, notably Brahim Diaz, Ismael Saibari and Vinicius Junior, all of whom played big parts in the game’s biggest moments.

Ancelotti tried to change the momentum in the second half, introducing Matheus Cunha and Luiz Henrique for Igor Thiago and Paqueta in the 61st minute. The Brazilian coach also changed to a 4-4-2 formation with Raphinha and Cunha in a forward pairing.

The second period never reached the heights of the first but the substitutions gave Brazil a new purpose. Cunha immediately injected energy and directness into the attack, troubling Morocco’s defence with his movement and willingness to run at defenders. Raphinha also had a much better second half display, leading the press with more intensity and helping Brazil regain territory further up the pitch.

Morocco, however, was disciplined and organised. A standout was 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The teenager was composed against Brazil’s experienced three-man midfield and kept showing why he is considered one of the brightest young talents at this World Cup.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages but neither could create the decisive breakthrough. The result means Brazil and Morocco play to a 1-1 draw in a match that highlighted Morocco’s tactical discipline and Brazil’s attacking quality.
