Published September 13, 2026 · Updated September 13, 2026 · NBC Sports

The Bears and Panthers made history on Sunday as Chicago's 59-37 road victory became the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history.

The Bears' 59-37 win over the Panthers featured 96 total points, breaking the previous Week 1 record of 88 points set by the Buccaneers and Saints in 2018. This marked the first time any NFL game ended with a 59-37 score. sweetbonan.org

While the combined score was historic, it wasn't the most points the Bears have ever scored in a game. Chicago previously scored 61 points in 1965 and 1980, and 73 points in the 1940 NFL championship game.
