World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler has officially confirmed his participation in the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open, marking a strategic step in his preparation ahead of defending his Open Championship crown at Royal Birkdale later this summer.

The American star, aged 29, will tee off at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian from 9–12 July, returning to the Scottish links for what will be his fifth appearance at the prestigious Rolex Series event. Scheffler, who won last year’s Open Championship with a four-shot margin, sees the Scottish Open as the ideal test ahead of golf’s oldest major.

“I always enjoy coming to the Genesis Scottish Open and taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK,” Scheffler said in the official tournament release. “The tournament always has a strong field and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week.”

At the 2025 Scottish Open, Scheffler finished joint eighth, trailing by four strokes behind eventual champion Chris Gotterup and evenly paced with many of the world’s best.

The 2026 field is expected to feature other top stars, including Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre and the reigning Scottish Open champion, adding to the competitive narrative as players fine-tune their games in unpredictable coastal conditions.

As Scheffler continues to build momentum in what has been an impressive season, his decision to commit to Scottish links golf highlights the increasing importance top players place on traditional tournaments in their major preparation schedule.
