Sourav Ganguly Set to Enter ICC Hall of Fame

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame to add another major honour in his remarkable cricket journey. Ganguly will be the 12th Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

Popular known as ‘Dada’ and the ‘Prince of Calcutta’, Ganguly has announced his debut with a century in a Test at Lord’s in 1996 and followed that with another ton in his next Test which made him only the third batter to score centuries in each of his first two Test innings.

In ODI cricket, he formed one of the game’s greatest opening partnerships with Sachin Tendulkar. Ganguly also won four consecutive Man of the Match awards against Pakistan in 1997. He also registered one of the finest ODI World Cup knocks, scoring 183 against Sri Lanka in 1999.

He became India’s captain in 2000 and helped rebuild the team after a difficult period. Under his leadership, India reached the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup, defeated Australia 2-1 in the memorable 2001 Test series, won a historic Test series in Pakistan in 2004 and lifted the 2002 NatWest Trophy where his shirt-waving celebration at Lord’s became an iconic moment in Indian cricket.

Ganguly finished his international career with 18,575 runs in 424 matches and 38 centuries. After retirement, he served Indian cricket as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He is currently the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), head coach of Pretoria Capitals in the SA 20, and also holds the administrative roles in the ICC men’s cricket committee.
