Nigeria’s road to U20 World Cup almost complete

Nigeria is the only African nation to qualify for every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, since the competition began in 2002.

The Nigeria U20 women’s national team, the Falconets has stepped up training ahead of this year’s edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup tournament in Poland, from September 5-27. ipltable.lol

Nigeria, Tanzania, Benin and Ghana will represent Africa in the biennial competition. No African team has ever won the FIFA U20 women’s World Cup title in the tournament’s 24-year history, with the four teams now having the burden of re-writing history.

The Falconets are by far the most successful African team in the tournament, having finished runners up against Germany in both 2010 and 2014. Other past African representatives included Ghana and DRC who exited in the group stage.

In Abuja, the Nigerian squad is going through the paces to be ready, with residential training having commenced four weeks ago.
Moses Aduku, the team’s head coach in an interview with Marabou News Agency believes it is possible for Nigerian or any other African team to win the World Cup.

Their target, is coming back with the World Cup trophy despite it being a tough task.

“I think mentality is important right now and we have been working on that, and the girls are getting it right. We are telling them that it is possible to win the World Cup. Yeah, training is good but the mentality must be 100% and we have been working hard with them, and I think one game at a time,” the coach said.

Captain Joy Igbokwe said they will go to Poland and give their best with a view of making Nigerians and Africans proud.

“Our goal is to go to Poland and give our best and come back with the Cup. We have great peers in the team, from the U17 to the U20 and we are good to go. We are young, we are determined, we are focused.”

The Falconets secured qualification to the U20 World Cup after an impressive qualifying campaign. They registered a 5-0 aggregate win over Rwanda in the second round before edging Senegal 3-2.

They then sealed their ticket to Poland with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Malawi in the final qualifying round. Nigeria is the only African nation to qualify for every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, since the competition began in 2002.

L’aventure de Facundo Medina à Marseille s’arrête après seulement une saison. Arrivé à l’OM durant l’été 2025 en provenance de Lens, le défenseur argentin rejoint officiellement le Bayer Leverkusen.

Le transfert est estimé à 25 millions d’euros, dont 23 millions d’euros fixes et 2 millions de bonus. Medina s’est engagé pour cinq ans, soit jusqu’en 2031, avec le club allemand.

« L’Olympique de Marseille annonce le transfert de Facundo Medina au Bayer Leverkusen. Le club remercie Facundo Medina et lui souhaite le meilleur pour la suite de sa carrière », a indiqué l’OM dans son communiqué.

À Marseille, l’international argentin aura disputé 17 rencontres de Ligue 1 avant de poursuivre sa carrière en Bundesliga.

Le Paris Saint-Germain s’apprête à disputer son premier match officiel de la saison. Les champions d’Europe affronteront Aston Villa mercredi soir en Supercoupe d’Europe, avec un groupe largement renforcé par les retours des joueurs ayant bénéficié de vacances après leurs engagements internationaux.

Luis Enrique peut notamment compter sur plusieurs renforts estivaux. Maghnes Akliouche et Lucas Digne figurent dans la liste, tout comme le jeune gardien Alessandro Longoni. Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernandez et Warren Zaïre-Emery retrouvent également le groupe, tandis qu’Achraf Hakimi fait son retour après avoir manqué les dernières rencontres de préparation.

Plusieurs jeunes joueurs ont aussi été retenus, notamment Quentin Ndjantou, Ibrahim Mbaye et Dro Fernández. À l’inverse, certains éléments présents durant la préparation n’ont pas été convoqués, à l’image de David Boly.

Après Milo FC et Hafia FC, Casimir Jagiello poursuit son aventure dans le football guinéen. Le technicien polonais rejoint cette fois Karfamoriah FC, où il a été nommé à la fois directeur sportif et manager général.

La décision a été officialisée ce mardi 11 août 2026 par le club à travers un communiqué publié sur ses réseaux sociaux. Casimir Jagiello prendra officiellement ses fonctions le 1er septembre prochain.

Arrivé dans l’environnement du football guinéen en tant que directeur sportif de Milo FC, le technicien polonais avait ensuite rejoint le Hafia FC comme entraîneur principal. Avec les Vert et Blanc, il avait réussi à décrocher le titre de champion de Guinée en Ligue 1.

À Karfamoriah FC, Jagiello se voit ainsi confier des responsabilités élargies. En plus de ses fonctions de directeur sportif et de manager général, il aura également autorité sur le plan sportif et technique, notamment sur l’entraîneur principal et son staff.

Dans son communiqué, Karfamoriah FC explique les raisons de cette nomination :

« Cette nomination s’inscrit dans la volonté de Karfamoriah FC de franchir une nouvelle étape dans la professionnalisation et la structuration de son projet sportif, avec l’ambition d’installer durablement le Club parmi les références du football guinéen et de renforcer sa compétitivité.

En qualité de Directeur sportif / General Manager, il exercera également l’autorité sportive et technique sur l’entraîneur principal et son staff technique, dans le cadre de la nouvelle organisation mise en place par le Club. »

Avec cette nomination, Karfamoriah FC confie donc à Casimir Jagiello un rôle central dans la conduite de son projet sportif. Fort de son expérience acquise avec Milo FC et Hafia FC et son bref passage au FC Nouadhibou en Mauritanie, le technicien polonais aura désormais la charge de participer à la structuration et au développement sportif du club.
